Richard Mofe-Damijo: A Luminary in Nigerian Cinema
Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, is a veteran Nigerian actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former journalist.
Born on July 6, 1961 in Nigeria, RMD grew up in Warri, a city in Delta State of Nigeria, His journey into the entertainment industry began in the 1980s by taking up small roles in stage plays and television productions. He eventually landed a spot in the popular Nigerian soap opera, “Ripples. RMD’s breakthrough role however came in 1992 with the movie “Out of Bounds.” His brilliant portrayal of the character, Segun, earned him the much need recognition after years of hard work. He went on to star in other films, including “Diamond Ring,” “Gloria,” and “Keeping Faith.”Since then, RMD has not only dominated the movie scene but the media space in both Nigeria and on the Africa continent.
He has also played different roles in the Nigerian entertainment industry to contribute to the development of the entertainment landscape. With a career spanning over 30 years, he has made a mark on the Nigerian film industry. He took up the role as the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State in 2009. RMD’s achievements are a testament to his dedication and passion for his craft.
Throughout his career, RMD has received numerous awards and nominations for his outstanding performances. Some notable awards include: Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2003 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Best Actor in a Drama at the 2017 AMVCA and many other awards.
In addition to his many achievements, RMD has also ventured into producing and directing. His production company, RMD Productions, has produced several films and television shows, including the critically acclaimed series “Mr. X.”
